Horizon Athletic and Swimwear launch a range of ethical and eco-friendly activewear

Gym-bunnies and beach-babes with a conscience will love the new range of activewear and swimwear products from Horizon Athletic. The company is the brainchild of professional athlete Marlena Gabriel, who went in search of the perfect sporting garments and in the end decided to create her own.

The collections are inspired by extraordinary sportswomen, and feature UV protection, moisture wicking, and breathability. What’s more, the comfortable kit is environmentally-friendly, a feature that reflects Gabriel’s passion for protecting eco-systems under threat.

It’s all thanks to the Australian brand using recycled fabrics, specifically Econyl®, a fibre made from abandoned fishing nets and other post-consumer waste. They then weave it with LYCRA® XTRA LIFE™ to make your swimming costume and athleisure-wear long-lasting, as well as ethical and eco-friendly.

Their Lightspeed swimwear collection references the success of American athlete, Lucy Wardle. The high-diving champion broke the world record in 1985 when she gracefully leapt from a 36.8m high board in Ocean Park, Hong Kong. In recognition of her amazing achievement, the bikinis, swimsuits, and surf-suits feature colour blocks and prism shaped cutouts, reflecting the diffraction of light through water. All are quick drying, and imbued with increased chlorine and sunscreen resistance.

We also love the Stopwatch collection, created in memory of Florence Griffith Joyner, the fastest woman of all time. The range features the shapes that traditionally form the numbers on a digital clock interface, and the numbers ‘10:49’ in reference to FloJo's extraordinary 100m sprint. The colours are bright and bold, and the cut super-flattering, perfect for beachside running in Dubai.
